The Interview Process: An overview
The nature of the interview is not of the cross-examination but of general discussion where the candidates are assessed over their ‘Personality’ and examined if they are suitable for a profession in bureaucracy. They also try to find out the mental abilities of a candidate.
Some of the skill sets they look for are attention to detail, mental alertness, integrity, power of assimilation, clear exposition, and the ability to balance judgment and leadership skills.
An interview usually lasts for about 20 minutes and you will face questions about topics of general interest.
Let us tell you a bit about how the day goes:
Candidates are expected to be present at the venue in advance to assimilate into the environment of the interview venue. Make sure you reach around 8:45 for the noon session. You won’t know the time you could have to wait for your turn. So, do not go empty stomach. You would be aligned in a queue with the other candidates and the security personnel will verify your call letter and identity proof.
Next, you will be taken inside the gates when it is time. Here, your documents such as educational documents, and documents supporting any relaxation you have applied for, will be verified. You will also be provided with a questionnaire for the Panel’s research and analysis purpose. You need to be calm and not panic as it is the usual procedure they follow.
At the next step, you will be allotted a panel number and sequence number. Even at this step, you won’t get to know the panelists and the chairman. Hence, one is advised to keep calm and don’t ponder over it.
After this, all the candidates will be escorted to the large circular hall and you will be sitting with the candidates who have similar panel number as you. If you are qualified and applying for any travel reimbursement, you will get a form to fill details for that.
It is here that your sequence number gets announced and you would be shown the way to the interview hall.
Irrespective of the number of questions answered or the medium of the interview, if you are calm, polite, and humble, you can ace the interview.
